the Statue of liberty originated as a gift to symbolize the friendship of France and the United States.
In many wars such as the Revolutionary war, the french has fought side by side until the battle was won.
Historians asserted that without the French assistence and support American republic might have never gained its independece.
the French political reformers who concieved of a gift to the american people which became the statue of Liberty were seeking a powerful symbol that would reinvigorate a long standing friendship and partnership.

the cost was split into two parts, France would pay for the statue and America would pay for the pedestal and the Foundation.
the U.S couldnt afford everything, Joseph Pulitzer used his newspaper to support the fund raiser for the U.S
Laboulaye created this idea/ organization to honor the friendship & the commitment between the U.S and France.
This plan was not released until 1874. By that time it had been already organized (the Franco American Union)
Bartholdi had already made the first models of the statue.
